How to Dye a Wig

Often anime and game characters have hair that is such a strange shade that it is impossible to find in any existing wig. But! We have an excellent method to change the colour of most wigs. This said, you may need to practice it a couple of times to get the hang of it.

Watch out! Permanent marker ink stains like crazy.

You will need:

- Sharpies in the required colours

- A comb

- Plastic gloves

- A spray bottle

- Rubbing alcohol (70%)

- Pliers (or some other tool for extraction of the inkwell)

- The wig

- Newspaper

- Optional: good conditioner (like Pantene)

Now, let's begin...

  1. - Put on the gloves and take the lid off the spray bottle.

  1. - Take the marker and pull out the inkwell with the pliers. I know, easier said than done.

  2. - Squeeze the inkwell into the spray bottle. You can mix different colours of permanent marker to get your own unique colour.

  1. - Pour desired amount of rubbing alcohol into the bottle. Put the lid on and shake it thoroughly. Note: The more you put in, the lighter the colour will be. If you have a blond or white wig and you want a lighter colour, you want more rubbing alcohol. If you have a darker wig and you desire a stronger colour, put less rubbing alcohol in.

  2. - Take the wig and brush it thoroughly. Make sure there are no tangles. Set the wig on the newspapers.

  3. - Spray the mixture on the wig. Brush it through to make sure you get it evenly covered.

  4. - Hang it up to dry.

  5. - When the wig is dry, try and comb it. If you cannot get the comb through it, take the wig to the bathtub and proceed with next step.

  6. - Get cups of warm water. While holding the wig on one hand, pour the water on top of the wig, letting it drip down. GENTLY lather the wig with a good conditioner, and dump the water on top of the wig. Repeat until clean and hang dry.
